What began as a restaurant showcasing the talent and expertise of our professional culinary team is now evolving into something even more distinctive. The Apprentice is transforming from an everyday dining destination into a premier venue for meaningful gatherings, curated culinary experiences, and unforgettable events.

Founder
Apprentice Restaurant is built on the vision and legacy of Chef François Ferreira, one of South Africa’s most respected culinary educators and mentors.
As the founder and director of the Francois Ferreira Academy, Chef François dedicated his life to developing aspiring chefs and hospitality professionals, empowering them with the skills, discipline, and confidence needed to succeed in the industry. His passion for culinary excellence, commitment to mentorship, and belief in practical, hands-on training transformed the lives and careers of countless students.
The creation of Apprentice Restaurant was a natural extension of this vision. Designed as a working training restaurant, it provides apprentice chefs with the opportunity to gain invaluable real-world experience while working alongside experienced culinary professionals. Here, learning and excellence come together, allowing students to refine their craft in a professional environment while delivering memorable dining experiences to guests.
Although Chef François sadly passed away on 31 May 2023, his influence continues to be felt in every service, every lesson, and every success story that emerges from the Academy and Apprentice Restaurant.
Today, we proudly honour his legacy by continuing his mission: delivering culinary excellence while nurturing the next generation of chefs who will shape the future of South African and international cuisine.
